Alessandro Costacurta highlighted his surprise following Milan’s 2-1 derby win over league leaders Inter.

The Nerazzurri took a 1-0 lead thanks to a first half Ivan Perisic goal, but two goals in three minutes from Olivier Giroud in the second half turned the game on it’s head, and the Rossoneri held on, securing an important three points. They now sit one point behind their intercity rivals in the league table, continuing to stoke the flames of an exciting title race.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Costacurta discussed which Serie A result of the weekend surprised him the most.

“The derby surprised me. I thought it would end differently, especially until the 74th minute. It’s a game that surprised me.”

Milan’s next league match is against a struggling Sampdoria, whilst Inter travel down to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to face Napoli, who also sit one point behind them in the table.

Another factor at play is the fact that the Nerazzurri have a game in hand over their Scudetto rivals, as their match against Bologna at the start of the year was postponed due to a COVID outbreak.
