FIGC sub-commissioner Alessandro Costacurta reveals “Roberto Mancini is one of the Coaches we’ve contacted, but there’s still no agreement”.

It was confirmed this week that the Zenit St Petersburg Coach had agreed in principle to become the new Azzurri CT, with contract talks planned for after the Russian season.

However, it was immediately reported that Zenit were not keen to release Mancio, and the budget for him and his staff totals €5m, less than he earns individually in Russia.

“He’s one of those who could restart Italian football, but he’s not the only one,” Costacurta told reporters as he attended the Festival della Tv e dei Nuovi Media.

“We have the names of five or six high-level Coaches who can help the national team to be a protagonist.

“Mancini is one of the Coaches we’ve contacted but there’s still no agreement, we respect the rules.”

Mancio is tied to Zenit until 2020, and they may go to FIFA for compensation of up to €10m if he breaks his contract.
