Serse Cosmi is keen for Lecce to concentrate on trying to beat Roma this weekend, for Serie A salvation and to forget recent events.

The club have become embroiled in the betting scandal that has hit the Italian sport this week, but facing the threat of relegation on sporting merits alone this season as it is, Cosmi is calling on his players and the fans to focus.

“I am close to the Semeraro family [Lecce’s owners] – what counts at the moment is only Lecce,” the Coach reflected, with the Salentini sitting in 18th position, five points adrift of safety.

“On our part there is only one way to respond to what has happened – by playing a great game and the city showing its love for the team.

“If we go back to this kind of controversy then it will do nothing but play to those who have wanted to put Lecce in this situation.”

The Giallorossi welcome Roma to the Via del Mare this weekend and Cosmi sees nothing easy from needing points in this game.

“Defining how difficult tomorrow’s game against Roma will be is trivial. But we are in this situation, unfortunately we cannot choose.

“Against worse opponents we have experienced more difficulty. They are in full battle for third place and they put the same hopes into this game as we do for continuing their season race.”
