There were another 174 coronavirus deaths in Italy on Sunday as the country prepares to enter Phase Two of its response to the contagion.

Today’s death toll is the lowest since March 10, when Italy recorded 168 losses of life.

Lombardy, the epicentre of the pandemic on the peninsula, posted just 42 new fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Elsewhere, new cases have fallen twofold since yesterday, while there have been more drops in hospitalisations, ICU admissions and isolations.

Italy enters the second phase of its coronavirus response on Monday, which now allows professional sports clubs to resume training with social distancing measures in place.

As of Sunday, there have been 210,717 positive tests of COVID-19 (+1,389), with 100,179 of them currently active (-525).

A total of 81,654 people have recovered (+1,740) and 28,884 have died.

Out of the 100,179 active cases, 81,436 are in self-isolation (-372), 17,242 are in hospital with symptoms (-115) and 1,501 are in intensive care (-38).

There have now been 2,153,772 tests, an increase of 44,935 since yesterday.
