Chievo Coach Eugenio Corini was frustrated at the way his team “gifted” Roma with the 2-0 victory last night.

Gervinho pounced on a poor Bostjan Cesar backpass and Mattia Destro sprung the offside trap at the Bentegodi.

“The team was too frenetic in the first half, as we gave the ball away repeatedly and that allowed Roma to feel even more confident,” Corini told Sky Sport Italia.

“We could’ve opened the game back up in the second half, but Roma played better than us. You simply cannot gift opportunities like that. It is a real regret that we gave them the goals.

“We had planned it a very different way, but we didn’t make the right decisions when going on the counter.

“We hope to get Cyril Thereau fit quickly, as on Wednesday there is a head-to-head with Bologna. We need to begin again from our second half performance, which showed a lot more spirit.”
