There was a very controversial incident deep into stoppages when Juventus were denied a penalty for handball, as instead the referee gave a free kick to FC Nantes for a Gleison Bremer push.

The Europa League play-off was perfectly balanced at 1-1 going into injury time at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin.

Bremer and Manuel Locatelli both leapt at the back post to meet the Juan Cuadrado cross and the Brazilian got his head to it.

The ball seemed to be going in, but was deflected off target by the outstretched hand of defender Fabien Centonze.

VAR called the referee to the touchline for an on-field review, but after examining the incident from various angles, the official opted for a free kick against Juve.

It was argued he had pushed Corchia down during the massive leap.

The crowd in the stadium was left incredulous at the decision, but nobody more than Leonardo Bonucci, who was stunned on the touchline.
