Andrea Conti’s agent says the Milan right-back is ‘weeks’ away from returning to full fitness.

Conti was ruled out for much of last season with damaged knee ligaments, before needing a second operation to correct some distortion, and there have been conflicting stories on when he will come back for the Rossoneri.

However, Mario Giuffredi told MilanNews.it: “He’s training with the team, he’ll play with the Primavera side in the next two weeks and then, gradually, he can return.

“The derby? Absolutely not. He doesn’t have to change anything he’s doing. He has great desire, but he’s a balanced lad and has his family and partner nearby.

“The injuries never made us think badly about his career in football. We’ve always been very positive. It was just a hiccup.

“Now that he’s about to start playing again, he sees plenty of light at the end of the tunnel. I jokingly tell him that he’ll be a real star when he gets back out at San Siro.

“However, my experience with players who have suffered bad injuries is that the first 3-4 months are always a bit problematic.

“He mustn’t think that he’ll come back the same player he was before because it takes time to readjust.”

The 24-year-old was one of the Rossoneri’s big-money signings in the summer of 2017, leaving Atalanta in a €24m deal.
