Azzurri Coach Antonio Conte hopes his summit with Serie A Coaches will become 'an institution' and announces plans for player meet-ups in February.

The ex-Juventus Coach concluded his meeting with the other tacticians in Serie A and the early response has been positive.

Conte, in a press conference after the meeting, expressed hope that the event can repeat itself.

“Today was the first instance of an appointment that should be an institution,” the Azzurri Coach declared.

“It's good to have one or two meetings a year between the Azzurri Coach and those in Serie A. Take some steps together and have some debate.

“I hope it may become an institutional appointment. We discussed the difficulties that our football is currently facing.

“I pointed out that eight out of ten of the players I called up do not play in their own teams. The national team is becoming a cabinet for the club.

“Nobody made any promises to me nor was I expecting to hear any from my colleagues.

“I just had a need to confront myself with them and let them understand the kind of situation that had to be restored.

“I listened to what they told me. It was a constructive meeting, at least from my point of view.

“I explained to them our intentions and what we would like to do.”

Conte's much-discussed 'training camps' seem to have a date established.

“I want to confirm our training camps for the 9/10/11th of February.

“We considered the possibility of starting the league earlier next year, it would be indispensable to end it earlier too in view of our qualification [to the Euros].

“The training camp would take place from Monday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon.

“There is a need for us to see each other, I hope it can be met.”

Conte has recently been on a visit to Genova to see Sampdoria and Genoa, currently joint-third in Serie A together with Lazio, and he spoke about that visit with characteristic subtlety.

“After Genova I took responsibility, firm in the knowledge that if I raise my voice, someone gets the stick.”
