Antonio Conte is the third favourite to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager after Jose Mourinho was sacked.

United announced Mourinho’s dismissal on Tuesday morning, almost three years to the day since he was fired by Chelsea.

Michael Carrick is expected to take interim charge of the Red Devils, but Sky Bet believes Conte is 8/1 to take the reins full time.

That places him joint-third in the managerial stakes, with Carrick the favourite at 10/11, Zinedine Zidane coming in second at 4/1 and Nicky Butt also at 8/1.

The former Juventus and Italy boss led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2017 but was sacked in July after a poor defence of their crown.

He was subsequently linked with replacing Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid, but the Spaniards opted to make an in-house appointment, promoting ex-Inter winger Santiago Solari instead.

Nonetheless, the 49-year-old gave Paul Pogba his big break at Juve and could be the man to revitalise United’s record signing.
