Antonio Conte seemed in a good mood during today’s press conference and quoted former Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino who once said: ‘You can pick the wrong wife, but not the wrong striker or golakeeper.’
Tottenham return to the pitch in an away clash against Burnely tomorrow and Conte previews the match at a press conference today. At some point, he was asked the importance of having experienced players such as Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane offering a funny answer.
“I remember very well about this question there is a sporting director in Italy that is my friend who’s name is Pantaleo Corvino that he says: ‘You can make a mistake about your wife but not about the striker.’
“For me, that is the best quote that I understand in football, no? You can make a mistake about your wife but not mistakes about your striker. To build a team. We are talking about two good players, two important players for us (Lloris and Kane), also the players with more experience.”
Corvino is the man who discovered big Serie A players such as Mirko Vucinic, Nikola Milenkovic and Dusan Vlahovic, bringing them to Italy for the first time.
Conte and Corvino have more in common as they both come from Salento, an area in the region of Puglia.
