Antonio Conte has hailed UEFA’s decision to award Roma a hosting package at Euro 2020 as a ‘valuable recognition for Italian football’.

The Stadio Olimpico will oversee three group fixtures and a quarter-final at the commemorative finals in six years’ time, following Friday’s announcement in Geneva.

“UEFA’s choice is a valuable recognition for Italian football,” Italy boss Conte has told Vivoazzurro.it.

“It’s an opportunity for growth and an important showcase for our entire movement.

“My job as Coach and as head of the national youth development can only be oriented to the future, with the aim of improving those who could one day be among the protagonists of Euro 2020.

“The opportunity to play in the European Championship will certainly provide us with some home matches and added stimuli.”

Italy recently kicked off their qualifying campaign for Euro 2016 with a 2-0 victory over Norway in Oslo.
