“We really want to start again, it’s normal,” Conte told Inter Channel.

“Just training isn’t nice. We need official games, competitions. We’ve worked hard to make ourselves ready, to get to this final rush in the best possible way.

“Eriksen’s now completely immersed in our reality. We’re trying to find game situations to get the best out of our players’ characteristics.”

Eriksen now has a position in the coach’s 3-5-2 formation, playing just behind Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.

However, the Beneamata have nine points to make up on league leaders Juventus and recently missed out on the Coppa Italia Final, losing to Napoli over two legs.

“The first thing we have to do is try to win the game against Sampdoria. It would mean [cutting the deficit to] six points and it wouldn’t be an abyss [to close].

“We’ve worked very well and intensely, both physically and tactically. Clearly, our room for error is less than those of the teams above us, but there’s passion and a lot of work behind us to do well. We’re confident.

“We want to play the final part of the season to the maximum, without foreclosure or limits.

“Our room for error is less than those of the teams above us, but we have desire, enthusiasm and passion. The team have improved in every aspect.”

Finally, the 51-year-old praised opposite number Claudio Ranieri, whose squad has been worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

“Claudio’s an excellent coach, what he did with Leicester was extraordinary and he’s a great person that I’ve had and I have of being around.

“I wish him all the best, starting from the next game, after they play us.”
