Antonio Conte admits the Euro 2016 semi-finals would be “a great achievement” for Italy but “why not the final?”

The Azzurri take on Romania in a friendly tonight, having already secured qualification for next summer’s European Championships in France.

“At the European Championships we can and we must be at the level of the greatest,” Conte told Rai Sport.

“I repeat my conviction: Italy can cause problems for anyone. It’s a shame to be playing this evening, and then seeing the team again in four months. It makes me angry.

“Aiming for the semi-final? It would be a great achievement, but why not the final? A result like that would help me make the perfect decision on my contract.”
