Atalanta’s Andrea Consigli has played down speculation that he could break into the Italy squad for Euro 2012.

The former Azzurrini goalkeeper, now 25, has been in fine form for the Nerazzurri so far this season. As a result, his name has been paired with a possible call-up to Cesare Prandelli’s Giro Azzurro.

“Playing for your country is the dream of every player,” the shot-stopper commented when asked about a possible place at the European Championship.

“However, there are goalkeepers who took part in the qualification games and who deserve Euro 2012 more than me.”

Prandelli’s three goalkeepers are likely to come from Gigi Buffon [Juventus], Morgan De Sanctis [Napoli], Salvatore Sirigu [Paris SG] and Emiliano Viviano [Palermo].
