Roma have officially announced that Francesco Totti has signed a new contract with the club.

The legendary captain’s current deal was due to expire at the end of the month, and for a time it appeared he would be leaving the Giallorossi.

However, following a meeting in Rome today with club President James Pallotta, the club has announced that Er Pupone will play on for one more year.

“It's official, Francesco Totti will wear the Roma shirt for one last season,” a statement read.

“The Giallorossi captain, who turns 40 on September 27, signed a contract which will tie him to the club for the 25th season of his career.”

The 2006 World Cup-winner then spoke to the club's official website about his new deal.

"I really wanted this contract, which is the realisation of my dream," Totti said.

"I always hoped to start and end my career in one shirt – Roma's.

"After speaking with the President, I'm even more convinced that we can reach big objectives."

Totti has made 758 appearances for the Lupi, scoring 304 goals since making his debut against Foggia on September 4, 1994.
