Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso accepted their home defeat to Atalanta, thanked the fans and backed coach Beppe Iachini.

The Viola had taken the lead through Federico Chiesa, but Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskyi turned it around after the break for a 2-1 result.

“I want to thank our fans, as they were the Number One today. I hope they won’t get fined for being passionate!” the President told Sky Sport Italia. “The fans are phenomenal and will get what the city of Florence deserves.

“These things happen, every game is different. We met Atalanta two weeks ago and beat them when down to 10 men, today we lost. That’s football.

“Beppe Iachini got very good results and performances. We conceded a last-second equaliser with Bologna, were narrowly beaten by Inter and then there was what happened with Juventus, so overall the approach is positive.

“I was very impressed by Igor, we’re waiting to get Alfred Duncan, Christian Kouame and Franck Ribery fit. We are investing a lot of money in Italy, the fans have been very supportive and hopefully we’ll be allowed to build our own stadium.”

Commisso was asked by Sky Sport Italia if his comments on referees were fully understood and had a pointed response.

“I heard a lot of comments that I didn’t like, especially from former players on Sky."
