Fiorentina patron stands by his comments about referees in Italy after the Juventus match in February, says Federico Chiesa can leave ‘for the right money’ but was coy about his plans for the upcoming transfer market.

At a press conference, where the patron claimed coach Beppe Iachini deserved the confirmation for 2020-21 and compared his achievements so far to the other Presidents in Serie A, he also touched on the controversy after a 3-0 defeat to the Old Lady in February.

Commisso said then that he was ‘disgusted’ by the referees in Italy and still claims ‘everyone must receive the same treatment from the referees’.

“On Juventus-Fiorentina, I would definitely make those statements again, perhaps without screaming,” he said at a press conference. “What prompted me to say those things was seeing how sad the lads in the dressing room were.

“I wanted to defend them. I frowned, but too many times our players were beaten. I want to reiterate, however, that everyone must receive the same treatment from the referees, and this has not been the case this season.

“I will make public recommendations soon, so everyone can read them.”

About the upcoming transfer market, Commisso was not interested in discussing future business, claimed he ‘never criticised’ winger Federico Chiesa and is willing to let the Italy international leave this summer.

“I won’t talk about the market because I haven’t had the opportunity to speak with [sporting director Daniele] Prade, [CEO Joe] Barone and [coach Beppe] Iachini.

“Some things are private, I certainly can’t say who the players I want are, I’m transparent but not stupid.

“I have never criticised him [Chiesa], we want him immensely well because he’s a smart boy, as well as his family.

“I thought keeping him would be the best thing last summer, I didn’t want to sell the best player as soon as I arrived.

“Now, I can say that if he wants to, he can go, as long as he brings us the right money. We’ll talk to the boy and we’ll decide what’s best for everyone.”

Sofyan Amrabat signed with Fiorentina and arrives from Hellas Verona this summer, something Commisso is very pleased about.

“I can say that it’s true that it was I who wanted him strongly. He was the only one where I said: ‘go get him because I want him’.

“Maybe we made mistakes, like with Pedro, but we also made a lot of right moves.”
