The Viola have struggled so far this season and there continue to be reports coach Montella is hanging by a thread.

Among the candidates to replace him on the bench, the favourite is former Milan boss Gattuso.

“Gattuso is from Calabria, like me, and he’s just as gritty as I was when I used to play football. I wasn’t good, but I put character in. I really like Rino’s grit,” Commisso told Rai Sport.

“I didn’t like the last three performances, we’ll see what happens with Torino. But for now, Montella has my confidence.”

The future is also something of a mystery for Chiesa, who has just started contract renegotiations with Fiorentina.

“Chiesa has a lovely family, I spoke to his father Enrico and we’ll see what we have to do in future. I said he’d remain at least for a year, so that means to the end of this season.

“My objective is to keep Chiesa forever, but we need to make the lad happy if he wants to leave. In any case, this is not a discussion to be had today.

“My time at Fiorentina has been positive so far, especially the affection that I have received and given back to the fans. I want to do things even faster here, the stadium and training facilities that Florence deserves, but politics is too strong in Italy.”
