Salernitana coach Stefano Colantuono said the Granata players are ‘not affected’ by the club’s situation and believes Simy will start scoring again soon.

The Salerno side are currently in a hurry getting the new ownership sorted, but Colantuono wanted to focus on his task with the players on Sunday.

The Granata are preparing for the match against Sampdoria in Serie A and are currently 19th in the table, a situation they must turn around immediately.

Colantuono revealed Stefan Strandberg and Frederic Veseli have returned from international duty with problems and pointed out that he has never worked with ‘a full squad’ at Salernitana.

“It has been two weeks of intense work, I’m very happy with the attitude of an impeccable group in terms of availability and professionalism,” Colantuono said at a press conference.

“We had some players travelling with their national teams and some are not very well, I’m referring to Veseli, who is suffering with muscle pain.

“It’s the same for Strandberg. We are sorry because, once again, we are in an emergency. I haven’t had a full squad since I arrived. At least we have the possibility to bring Lassana Coulibaly and Capezzi with us.”

Salernitana receive ‘no suitable offers’ for takeover

Colantuono was asked about the situation at the club, who are still looking for a new owner and are now running out of time.

“I have enough experience to understand that the players are not affected by it,” he said. “The table is clear, we have to concentrate on the pitch.

“For a few weeks we have embarked on a path that has given us discrete results, despite having played against Napoli and Lazio. I have always seen a combative Salerniatna.

“It’s difficult for me to give an objective judgement of the matches of my own management. It’s up to me to do the talking on the pitch.”

Simy arrived at Salernitana from Crotone ahead of the season and has only scored once in 12 games with the Granata.

“I keep him tight, during a season there are moments when you are less brilliant,” he said. “I talked to him, he must be calm, because he has always scored.

“His path has been troubled, perhaps he needs continuity. But we are always on the run and we cannot afford independent management of all the athletes.”
