The Orobici cancelled out the opener from Antonio Floro Flores within 120 seconds in today’s 1-1 draw at Marassi.
“We were in a real emergency situation between bans and injuries, so we knew we’d face a fiery atmosphere here in Genoa,” said the Coach.
“We got solid and played a good game, especially in psychological terms. In the first half we could’ve done more, but away from home we are a tough side for anyone to face. Concentration and solidity won over the rest.
“If we didn’t have the two-point penalty, then we’d be mathematically safe by now, but at least we are close to the finish line.”
Colantuono was sent off during the second half for dissent after an earlier warning for his usual emphatic touchline instructions.
“I had asked the referee in a civilised manner for a free kick when Thomas Manfredini fouled Marko Livaja, but the official very calmly told me to leave because I had stood up. It’s not a problem anyway, I continue to believe we have the best referees in the world.
“We made a mistake on the opening goal, as Floro Flores was left unmarked in the box, but he deserves praise for a good goal.”
