Fiorentina President Mario Cognini has his sights set firmly on a top three finish and “Federico Bernardeschi is our future.”

The Viola were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Carpi and this week crashed out of the Europa League at the hands of Tottenham.

“Elimination really hurts, as do all defeats, but we must realise that often we face football clubs that are stronger than us,” Cognini told reporters at a charity event.

“I am not in any case disappointed with the performance of our lads, who gave their best trying to impose our idea of football.”

Fiorentina are currently in third and host second-placed Napoli on Monday night.

“We have to take it one game at a time with the awareness we can do well and we must believe because we’re right up there.”

Bernardeschi disappointed in London after scoring in the first leg, but Cognini shook off any transfer speculation.

“He is a product of our youth academy and we want to focus on him for our present and future. He is a treasure of the club.”
