The Italian Coaches’ Association voiced its “solidarity” with Stefano Pioli, whose departure from Fiorentina is increasingly bitter.

Pioli resigned in protest after the club released a statement that was highly critical of his performance.

“The club also ask Coach Pioli to manage this period with the competence and sincerity he showed in the first half of the season,” read the statement.

Vincenzo Montella has been hired as his replacement, but the AIAC (Italian Coaches’ Association) released its own note today backing Pioli.

“Solidarity and closeness to Stefano Pioli. The Association of Italian Coaches expresses this after reading the statement released on April 8, 2019 by the Viola club owners, which pushed the Coach to resign after seeing his professional and above all human capabilities put into doubt.

“Nobody is contesting the freedom of every club to set objectives and evaluate performances, but criticising concepts like seriousness and competence is something that must be done with extreme care, or in a few lines it can doubt the effort of those who work for the club and consequently their professionalism.

“We stand with Pioli, a Coach with an exemplary career who represents a model of fairness and competence in Italian football.”
