Dries Mertens is increasingly unlikely to sign a new Napoli contract, so has interest from Inter, Manchester United, Arsenal and above all Chelsea.

The striker will be a free agent in June, but was not prepared to leave mid-season, especially as he is on the verge of breaking Marek Hamsik’s all-time record as Napoli top scorer.

Chelsea had already tried to coax the Belgian away in January, as did Inter, but Mertens and Napoli had no intention of parting early.

According to the latest reports from Italy, contract talks are not going well, as La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Mertens wants €7.5m per year for two seasons.

Instead, the proposal from Napoli is stuck at €4m plus another €1m in performance-related bonuses.

Inter have long been linked with Mertens and would still be the favourites, but there is also interest from Roma, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, according to the Daily Express.
