A clause in Juan Cuadrado’s contract has reportedly been activated, extending to 2023, but Juventus still want to negotiate a lower salary.

The Colombia international’s deal had been due to expire on June 30 and talks have been going on for weeks over a new contract.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport and others, a clause was activated this weekend because it was his 40th competitive game of the season.

That automatically extends the contract to June 2023.

However, it is also reported that Juventus want to negotiate a lower salary than the previous deal, perhaps by spreading the cost over two seasons rather than one.

In any case, the possibility of losing Cuadrado as a free agent is no longer one to be considered.

He joined the Bianconeri from Chelsea for €25m plus bonuses in 2015 and so far this season he has five goals and five assists.

There are several other Juventus players who could leave for free this summer, including Paulo Dybala, Mattia De Sciglio, Federico Bernardeschi and Mattia Perin.
