Roma defender Cicinho is hoping to get his career back on track following the appointment of Luis Enrique as Coach.

The Brazilian has had a difficult spell in Rome since his 2007 arrival from Real Madrid. He's twice been sent on loan to Sao Paulo and Villarreal since then.

However, the stopper has returned to the Giallorossi and is a contender for the right-back spot this term in a more attack-minded team.

"I'm happy with how training is going," said the international full-back. "I thank the staff for their faith in me.

"I'm working hard with the new season on the horizon because I want to play more often."

The South American, who has featured in just 60 League games for the capital side during his career in Italy, is also fighting for a new contract.

"I have just a year left on my agreement," he added. "I've spoken to the Coach and sporting director Walter Sabatini, but not about my contract.

"For now I just need to play football and show people that I am a different player, but I would have no problem accepting a reduced salary to stay."
