Eugenio Corini has admitted that Chievo’s home form is a concern, as he reflects weekend opponents Udinese are unlikely to be relegated.

The Flying Donkeys head out to Udine on Saturday evening to face the side directly above them in the table, but who are also five points ahead.

“Udinese are an important team with a great Coach that always knows the right cord,” Corini has mused pre-match.

“As a result, it is difficult for us to think that they could be involved in the relegation fight.

“They are doing very well in the Coppa Italia, the players they have are solid and fast, their structure is of absolute value.

“Their victory last week against Bologna was crucial and, in all probability, they will be safe from relegation much sooner.”

Chievo head into the test without a win in their last seven rounds of League action, with a home defeat to Lazio last time out causing concern.

“During the week, I saw my boys as very reactive, but then in the field we were unable to express what we had prepared.

“During the first half we could have pulled level, but after their second goal, we passively accepted the verdict and I have to say that overall, it was a subdued performance on our part.

“Lately we are not getting many positive results at home and this is a problem because, in the past, often Chievo have contributed to their League survival with many points at the Bentegodi.

“However, if we analyse our performances, we note that with Sampdoria and Parma we have deserved to draw, while with Cagliari it was a very tactical game and balanced, being the first after the Christmas break.”

Chievo has strengthened in the winter market.

“In a very difficult market and especially one like in January, I asked for players with experience, with a view of a fight to avoid relegation, which as I have said before, will be an endurance test for many teams until the end.

“The arrivals of Agazzi, Canini, Rubin and Guarente respond to this need. Pausing on the former Cagliari ‘keeper, I want to clarify that the starter is still Puggioni, but I felt the need for an important alternative between the sticks.”
