The Partenopei had a bid rejected in the summer, and it’s thought there is a €60m asking price for the Viola’s brightest talent.

“I’m just thinking about proving my value all the time those numbers seem a bit exaggerated,” Chiesa shrugged, speaking to the Corriere dello Sport.

“My only priority is to show, Sunday after Sunday, who Federico Chiesa is. Now my focus is all on Cagliari.

“I’m happy here at Fiorentina now. Again, I’m only thinking of the next game.

“Who would I buy for €60m? Give me some more, because for the absolute top players you need €200m. I’d take [Kylian] Mbappé.”

Chiesa has been touted as the protagonist for a potential Italy revival…

“This is a young Italy and there’s still a long way to go. My priority is just to be ready for the CT, I don’t feel like a starter or a pillar, I just want to prove that I deserve the Azzurri.

“I’ll work to make sure I can celebrate the next call-up.

“Mancini is now starting a new project. He’s always told us to play calmly and freely, without pressure.”

Fiorentina were hit by tragedy earlier this year, when their captain Davide Astori tragically passed away.

“Davide was a captain for all of us, 110 per cent on the pitch and off it,” Chiesa said.

“He bound the whole dressing room together. When [Vitor] Hugo arrived he didn’t speak a word of Italian and it was he who made him understand, through gestures, what the Coach wanted. It was the same with the French players.

“Every time a new player arrived and was added to our WhatsApp chat, his message was always the first: ‘hello, welcome’.

“When I first went to the training ground [with the first team] I remember that he and [Federico] Bernardeschi were there. Davide was the first to greet me.

“At the table I always sat next to him, because he made me sit there. That space remains, Davide is always with us.”
