Giorgio Chiellini confessed he had “an off night” after the error and red card in Italy’s 3-1 win away to Israel.

The Juventus defender already made costly mistakes in Thursday’s 3-1 defeat to France, but was arguably even worse in the World Cup qualifier.

He gave away a goal to Tal Ben-Haim, then received two avoidable yellow cards.

“It was an off night for me, but fortunately the squad was formidable and brought home the three points,” wrote Chiellini on Twitter.

It was his first dismissal at the 90th senior cap for Italy and means he’ll be suspended for the next clash against Spain in October.
