Conte is the current Italy manager, but is widely expected to walk away after the Euro 2016 tournament, when his contract expires.

Multiple reports claim he has agreed in principle a three-year contract worth £6m per season after a meeting in London on Thursday.

However, today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport insists Chelsea’s main target is Atletico Madrid boss Simeone.

Only if Simeone turns down the position will the Stamford Bridge side then truly commit to Conte.

New details are still coming in with the Daily Mail suggesting Conte’s negotiations were with Roman Abramovich’s right-hand woman Marina Granovskaia.

The transfer budget is believed to be worth £150m and he has already targeted Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

Meanwhile, the Mail also suggests Conte has drawn up plans to bring in his old staff from Juventus, including assistant manager Angelo Alessio, fitness coaches Paolo Bertelli and Mauro Sandreani.

It would also see a reunion with Massimo Carrera, who temporarily took over as Juventus Coach in 2012 during a match-fixing ban for both Conte and Alessio.
