Juventus defender Medhi Benatia admits the Champions League is “an objective” but “it’ll be very difficult”.

The Bianconeri have won five Scudetti in a row, and lifted the Coppa Italia in each of the past two seasons, but Europe’s top club competition has so far eluded them.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side were beaten in the final by Barcelona in 2015, and last year lost a close Last 16 tie to Bayern Munich after extra time.

“We’re happy that the season is getting underway,” Benatia explained to Sky ahead of the start of Serie A on Saturday.

“There’s great expectation on Juve, for the League, because right now it seems obvious [we’ll win it] but it’s not like that. It’ll be difficult, but we’re ready.

“When you come to Juve you have to know what it takes to win and I know that, so that’s why I came. We really want to win the Scudetto, that’s our main objective and we’ll do everything to conquer it.

“It’s a very beautiful thing to win the Champions League, but it doesn’t happen every year. It’s a dream though, and while it may seem like something impossible I think this squad and this club is doing everything right to lift that trophy.

“It will be very difficult, because obviously it’s not just us trying to win it, but it has to be an objective.”
