Theo Hernandez says qualifying for the Champions League is the first step for Milan and that Marco Giampaolo is ‘very aggressive and intense’.

Hernandez joined Milan from Real Madrid in July, but the left-back has yet to play any competitive games for the Rossoneri due to an ankle injury.

“I’m very well, at ease,” he told Milan TV.

“My recovery is going slowly but positively. I really want to come back to play. I’m very happy to be at Milan, I get along very well with my teammates, the staff and everyone.

“My recovery is going slowly but positively. I really want to come back to play. I’m very happy to be at Milan, I get along very well with my teammates, the staff and everyone.

“I want to get back on the pitch. I had a bit of bad luck with this injury, but these are things that happen in football.

“I feel close to everyone, and, although my Italian is not great, we can understand each other.

“I feel good with everyone. I have excellent teammates. Our objective is, first of all, to get to in the Champions League and, from there, aim even higher.

“We’re a great team, a complete squad, and we can do it with the support of our fans.

“Everyone has great quality in this team and they’re all great players. I have great fun particularly with Samu Castillejo.

“I like the No 19 because it’s the same as my brother’s [Lucas Hernandez]. I also wore it last season and, since it was free, I decided to take it.”

The 21-year-old was then asked about working under Giampaolo, who replaced club legend Gennaro Gattuso over the summer.

“I didn’t know Giampaolo, but he’s a very good Coach. In training he’s very aggressive, very intense. We’ll do good things with him and with this squad.

“I’ve had two positive and peaceful months here. I’ll move into a house soon after spending my first couple of months in a hotel.

“I haven’t not learned many words in Italian yet. The only thing I can say is ‘molto bella’ [very beautiful]!”
