Before his speech on Friday, Tavecchio had the support of all top flight clubs except for Juventus” data-scaytid=”6″>Juventus and Roma to become new President of the FIGC.

“My reaction was deep bitterness and great irritation. I am of the idea that, having shared his candidacy because he embraced a renewal of the system, as of today all Lega Serie A Presidents should consider themselves free to vote autonomously, following only their own convictions and consciences.”

So far many clubs have remained silent, but Fiorentina, Cesena, Sampdoria and reportedly also Sassuolo withdrew their support for Tavecchio.

He refused to step down from the race, as he still has backing from Lazio and Palermo.

“I have the support of the Lega Serie A, Serie B and Lega Pro. I go forward with my candidacy as President of the Federation,” Tavecchio insisted today.

“Now I’ll begin the fight against any discrimination in sport.”
