The Cavallucci Marini still have the slim possibility of escaping relegation, but things are looking tough as they visit la Viola right after a 2-2 draw with direct competitors Atalanta.

“It was imperative to win the game against Atalanta for a thousand reasons,” he said. “The team showed that they’re in a good condition and can play against anyone at their own level.

“Unfortunately the individual incidents didn't play out in our favour, but we kept fighting till the 95th minute.

“There's no point in over-planning things now, we still have five games and we'll need to pick up as many points as possible.”

The 51-year-old then went on to examine the best ways to beat his upcoming rivals.

“In Florence we have to take to the pitch and play our game with courage, fighting on every ball.

“In their last few games at home, Fiorentina created a lot, but were very vulnerable to counters. We'll have to be smart and exploit our own counters.

“In Genoa, against Sampdoria, we prepared a similar game but we weren't able to score.

“I want the same attitude on the pitch in the next few games too, all the way until the end of the championship. Our strength lies in the unity of the group, our speed and our aggressiveness.

“I think that Fiorentina will have some squad rotation, but in any case they'll have some players of great quality on the pitch.

“The quality of the Viola is well known. We'll have to keep ourselves from being crushed because they're sure to play for victory, by their collective game and that of the individuals.”
