The Biancazzurri are currently bottom of the League, with a seven-point gap up to safety, but Cerri has returned to the club to help out in the fight for survival.

After a year in Sardinia and spells at Perugia and Pescara, the former Juventus forward was surprised to see the development in Ferrara since their time in Serie B.

“I jumped at the opportunity,” he told at a press conference. “I’m keen to hit the target we have set ourselves.

“I have always been in love with the city. I was positively surprised by the facilities, which has changed from Serie B until today.”

He could become the new partner of Andrea Petagna, who is set to leave the club after the season. The former Atalanta forward has signed with Napoli and was loaned back to SPAL for the remainder of the season to help the team beat the drop.

“The coach will decide, but I hope so,” Cerri said. “I think I have approved as a person and player.”
