The Uruguayan striker, who has scored 49 League goals for the Vesuviani in the two seasons he has been with the club, has been linked with a summer switch out of the San Paolo.

However, with Ezequiel Lavezzi in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over a transfer, Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly instructed sporting director Riccardo Bigon to tie Cavani to a new deal, in a move similar to that taken with Marek Hamsik at the end of last season.

Il Mattino alleges that negotiations with the 25-year-old and his agent will begin next week, with the club reportedly happy to more than double the striker's annual salary from €2.4m to €5m, which would make him one of Serie A’s best paid footballers.

Also, the Partenopei would add a further sweetener to talks by partially conceding image rights back to the player.

Cavani’s current deal has another four years to run, having only been signed last summer upon completion of his permanent transfer from Palermo.
