Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has played down his father’s claims that he wants to play for Real Madrid.

“This is a good opportunity to tell the world that, when my family speaks, that isn't Edinson Cavani speaking,” the Uruguayan international told Marca.

“I've asked my family thousands of times to please not talk anymore, because it harms me.

“I belong to Napoli and everything depends on that club. If at some point there is another option, we'll see.

“What I want to do is sit down face-to-face with the President and decide my future together.”

Cavani can be signed by any outfit who are willing to pay the €63m release fee clause which is included in his Napoli contract.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea are the leading contenders to sign the player this summer.

“Real is one of the best clubs in the world, but there is no deal yet,” he added.

“When we're kids, we dream about playing at a team like Madrid or Barcelona, but right now I'm at Napoli and I'm very proud to be there.

“If I leave one day, I'll be ready to move to a bigger club. We'll see.”
