The report emerged in La Gazzetta dello Sport after a shock 4-1 home defeat to Serie B side Siena in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

The Sicilians are also bottom of the Serie A table, as De Canio has not improved their results since taking over from Rolando Maran on October 20.

Ferrara would be an intriguing choice, as he started his coaching career as assistant manager to Marcello Lippi in the 2006 World Cup.

He then worked at the Juventus” data-scaytid=”32″>Juventus youth academy, was promoted to the main job in place of Claudio Ranieri in May 2009 and remained on the bench until he was sacked the next season.

Ferrara became the Italy Under-21 manager in October 2010, but left in July 2012 for Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”36″>Sampdoria.

Here too he didn’t last long, as he was fired in December 2012.
