Fiorentina and Italy midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli broke the silence on social media after sustaining a knee surgery that will force him out of action for at least eight months.

The Italy international had sustained a severe knee injury against Venezia on Saturday and underwent knee surgery in Rome yesterday.

“The surgery went well and now the recovery begins,” the 25-year-old wrote on Instagram, posting a picture from his hospital bed.

“I can’t wait to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. #ForzaViola and thank you for all your messages of support!”

Fiorentina had confirmed that the surgery had been successful and that the player will remain on the sidelines for eight to ten months.
