Leandro Castan is satisfied about finally being able to play for Roma, but warns: 'It's time to win now'.

The Brazilian defender missed out the entirety of last season as he was diagnosed with a cavernoma, an abnormal cluster of blood vessels in the brain, and surgically treated.

“I felt fine, I wasn't nervous about using my head,” he said after yesterday's friendly against Hungarian side Gyrmot Gior.

“Now I just need to go get back to a 100 per cent condition. I hope to be ready by the start of the championship.

“I'm a bit angry about the match, we should always be winning when we play.

“It's true that our legs feel heavy at this stage, and it's a friendly and all that, but I wanted to win.

“I want to wipe all of this period out as soon as possible. I'm no longer ill and the only thing I still have is the scar.

“I've got enough character to be able to take criticism, and I want it too, because I need to feel like one of the others.

“It's true, I've been away for eight months, but I don't want people to look at me as someone who went under the knife.”

The Giallorossi played yesterday in a friendly against Gyrmot Gior but they lost 2-1, prompting the fans to jeer the team.

“When you've gone a long time without winning a trophy, it's normal that the supporters should have higher expectations.

“We the footballers have to give 100 per cent and be men, because the fans don't have a lot of patience and next season is going to be long and difficult.

“We're only at the beginning, we've worked very hard but we have to improve, because it's time to win.”
