Juventus stand-in Coach Massimo Carrera has praised the ability of midfield summer recruit Paul Pogba.

“He’s a good player and above all a young talent,” Carrera, who will boss Juve from the touchline while Antonio Conte is banned, said after yesterday’s 5-1 in-house friendly.

“Pogba was born in 1993 and he can improve a great deal by training alongside these champions at Juventus.”

The French teenager moved to Turin on a free transfer after he opted against signing a new contract at Manchester United.

Turning to the team as a whole, Carrera said he was encouraged by what he saw in yesterday’s annual pre-season friendly at Villar Perosa.

“It was a good workout for us,” added the former Juventus defender. “We’re about 70, 80 per cent there and we also showed our good engine against Napoli by striving all the way to the bitter end.

“Our next appointment is in the Berlusconi Trophy on Sunday against Milan. We’ll assess the lads’ condition first and then decide who to play.”

There is a chance that Giorgio Chiellini could feature after he picked up an injury at Euro 2012.

“Chiellini missed out as a precaution [yesterday],” Carrera noted. “He warmed up, but we decided against risking him.”
