Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher praises ‘fantastic’ Inter and Italy midfielder Nicolò Barella but admits the Reds may need to pay an extra €15m if the move happens.

The Italy international has been outstanding in the Champions League quarter-finals scoring one goal in each game against Benfica and inspiring Inter’s first qualification to the semis of Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2009-10.

The former Cagliari man has been linked with a move to Liverpool at the end of the season and one of the Reds’ legends, Carragher, appears to be a fan of the Italian midfielder.

“He was fantastic,” the ex-defender told CBS.

“There’s actually talk of him being linked to my club Liverpool for next season, so that’s an extra £10m we might have to pay on top of the price tag if it does happen.”

Barella, 26, has eight goals and eight assists in 41 appearances across all competitions this season, including three in nine Champions League matches.

He extended his Inter contract in November 2021 and his current deal at the Stadio Meazza runs out in June 2026.

Barella joined Inter from Cagliari on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for €32.5m in the summer of 2019.
