Cagliari sporting director Marcello Carli confirms Coach Diego Lopez will stay until the end of the season – “together we can save Cagliari”.

The Isolani were thrashed 4-1 by Sampdoria at the weekend, and are just three points above the relegation zone with three matches to play.

“After the Sampdoria match we were all shocked,” Carli admitted in a Press conference today.

“We met with the President [Tommaso Giulini] on Monday and made a lot of evaluations, but with three games to go it was right for the Coach, the lads and myself to take our responsibilities and go and play these games with no excuses.

“The club didn’t talk to any other Coach, and anyone who reports otherwise is challenged to prove it.

“Our fate is in our own hands, now all the components necessary to drag us away from this situation must emerge.

“The Coach is the right person, just as the players are all very attached to this team and have to pull out the right energies to save ourselves.

“We’ll go into ritiro from tonight. I don’t want to make any appeals to fans, because they’re just waiting to help us: it’s up to us to make sure they can help us by playing games that transmit great emotions.

“There were over 15,000 people against Bologna, it was a party in the stands. It is therefore up to us to take that extra step to save ourselves, if we are good then people will come to applaud us.

“We don’t want to cry, I want to convey that together we can save Cagliari. We have to give everything in these three games.”
