Francesco Caputo revealed Sampdoria coach Roberto D’Aversa ‘often tried’ to sign him in the past. ‘I’m happy that he’s here’.

D’Aversa replaced Claudio Ranieri at the Blucerchiati during the summer and Caputo arrived at Marassi after playing two games with Sassuolo.

Caputo has scored two goals in two games for Sampdoria and currently prepares for the home game against Napoli on Thursday night.

“D’Aversa often tried to get me,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “But nothing was ever done. I’m happy that he’s here, he has a good idea of football, he knows what he wants from his players.”

But the new arrival pointed out that both President Massimo Ferrero and veteran striker Fabio Quagliarella helped convince him to move.

“But also President Ferrero, who transmitted all his enthusiasm to me,” Caputo added. “Then there’s the sporting director Faggiano, I’ve known him for a lifetime.

“Fabio [Quagliarella] is very important for the environment and for the group. It was also the fact that I found him here that convinced me.

“I liked the idea of playing with him, even though we have many strong forwards, from [Manolo] Gabbiadini to [Ernesto] Torregrossa.”
