The Danish international was snapped up from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window for €20m, although his actual value on the market is believed to be closer to €90m, as he was in the final six months of his contract.

Eriksen made his Serie A debut in last night’s 2-0 win away to Udinese, but Inter only really stepped up a gear and got the goals after Marcelo Brozovic replaced the newcomer.

“I have already said and continue to believe that in my view Eriksen and Sensi are more or less on the same level,” former England manager Capello told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“Sensi is younger, but his vision of the game is just as good as the Dane. In fact, he may even be more dynamic than his new teammate.

“However, Antonio Conte evidently wanted someone with more charisma and experience in the middle of the park. Eriksen has played in the Premier League and is an international.”

Conte had complained after a Champions League defeat that he did not have enough experience in the squad.

“With all due respect, what experience can I call on from players who came from Sassuolo and Cagliari?”

Sensi is 24 years old and Inter signed him from Sassuolo on loan for €5m with option to buy for a further €20m.

He has been limited by injuries this season, but still contributed three goals and four assists in 12 Serie A games.
