Longo is expected to take over for the rest of the season, as he has strong links with the Granata, having won the youth team Scudetto and Coppa Italia when he was their academy coach.

However, Tuttomercatoweb maintain this is only a stop-gap measure and Di Francesco is being lined up for next season.

Di Francesco was fired by Sampdoria in September, but cannot take on another Serie A job within the same campaign, as that is forbidden in the Italian rules.
