Fabio Capello agrees with the Matthijs de Ligt suggestion that Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri is ‘the closest Italian equivalent to Dutch Total Football.’

Former Ajax defender De Ligt made the comparison this week, praising Sarri for the tactical approach to the sport.

“If De Ligt says it, then who am I to contradict him?” noted Capello in Tuttosport newspaper.

Former Ajax defender De Ligt made the comparison this week, praising Sarri for the tactical approach to the sport.

“If De Ligt says it, then who am I to contradict him?” noted Capello in Tuttosport newspaper.

“However, I wouldn’t just say that Sarri deserves this tag, because there are other Italians who have a similar conception of football. I will say that I watched Sarri’s work at Chelsea too and he is a coach capable of adapting to the players he has at that moment. I consider that a very intelligent attitude.

“It means that Sarri is both practical and with an attacking, winning mentality.”

Sarri won the only trophy of his career so far with Chelsea, lifting the Europa League.
