Fabio Capello is “busy with TV” but “never say never” to taking over as Italy CT.

The former England manager has previously ruled-out taking over the Azzurri if Antonio Conte steps down, but appeared more open to the idea in an interview with Fox Sports.

“Italy? I’m busy with TV, but I never rule anything out because you never say never,” Capello explained.

“For now I’m on holiday and I’m fine, I’ve not even thought about it. I left Russia with the intention of quitting football and focusing on being a sports commentator, which I enjoy a lot more.

“On the pitch when you make a mistake you have to deal with all the critics and journalists.

“It would take interest and desire to consider it, and at the moment I’m relaxing, on standby. I’ve had a lot of calls in this period and I’ve said no to a lot.

“As I just said, I’m on standby."

Capello won the Scudetto with Roma in 2001, and was asked for his opinion on Francesco Totti’s apparent rift with Coach Luciano Spalletti.

“I’m on both of their sides. One is a player who still feels he has a lot to give, and also feels he deserves a contact for what he’s given to the club, so his request has to be considered with respect.

“I’m also on Spalletti’s side, because as a Coach he’s putting out his best possible team because he wants to win.

“Obviously he didn’t consider Totti ready for the kind of football he wants to play right now, having seen him in training.

“I have to be grateful to Totti for what he did with my Roma, but at the same time I’m with Spalletti for doing a brave and correct thing, given the results of the team.”
