Fabio Capello has praised Napoli for their capture of Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid. “He’s a great striker.”

The current Russian national team boss knows the player well from his time as Coach with the Spanish capital club.

“When he arrived at Real, you could see that he had great potential,” the Italian told the Corriere dello Sport on Friday.

“But he has grown a lot since then,” Capello added. “And he deserves all of the credit because he has worked very hard.

“He was a good and interesting player, now he is a great striker.

“I think Higuain was lucky to be able to play alongside Raul, a player who knew how to be in the right place at the right time in the penalty area.

“I told Higuain to copy Raul’s movement when he didn’t have the ball. I’d say that he listened.”

The South American was wanted by both Juventus and Arsenal this summer, but the Azzurri netted him at a cost of €37m to replace Edinson Cavani who is now at Paris Saint-Germain.

“Napoli are a serious and important club, while Higuain is an attacker who scores goals,” Capello continued.

“It seems that the marriage has everything necessary in order to bring great satisfaction to both parties.”
