Speculation is mounting over whether Cesare Prandelli will quit in the wake of the 2014 World Cup and who his successor could be.

Capello was named as a potential candidate, but shot down any links in an interview with Fox Sports Italia.

“I will not be Prandelli’s replacement. I will close my career as a Coach after the experience with Russia,” said the former England manager.

The favourite at the moment appears to be Milan boss Allegri, though Capello is not convinced.

“He is too young and I would advise him not to become a national team Coach, but rather continue his growth process working every day on the training ground.

“Milan did well to sign Kaka, as I am sure he will do well, but the lad needs to play after three years of inconsistency at Real Madrid.”

Questioned on the Champions League, Capello picked one of his former clubs.

“In my view Real Madrid are the favourites, as this year they can win their 10th title and Carlo Ancelotti is the right man, even if the club made a mistake by selling Mesut Özil.

“They only paid €100m for Gareth Bale because Manchester United had offered €120m.”
