“Now comes the difficult part. We have to keep training like we’re doing, we’re top and we’ll continue to do things well.

“We want to stay top right to the end. We’ve told the youngsters that the most difficult part of the season is still to come, the games which are loaded with pressure.

“We hope to celebrate at the end of the season. The match against the Bianconeri on April 22 will definitely be decisive. We have to stay calm.

“The Coach [Maurizio Sarri] gives us the confidence to play like this. We have to thank him and his staff for what they’re doing.”

Napoli failed in a move for Matteo Politano yesterday, with the transfer deadline passing before they and Sassuolo could sign the paperwork.

“That’s how the transfer market works, names come and go. Politano didn’t come, it’s true, but we’re a strong team and we’ll remain so without him.”

Finally, the Spaniard was asked about a potential call up to the World Cup squad.

“It’s my objective, let’s see how it goes,” Callejon replied.

“I work for Napoli, I owe so much to this team and this city. Then if I get called up, great.”
